Meeting Ina May and hearing her provide birth wisdom was beyond spectacular. Lupe and I loved getting our picture made with such a special and humble person.

Penny, the Doula Guru

It was a delight to spend Saturday with Penny Simkin in Chapel Hill, NC. Penny is a hero in the doula field and one of the founders of the doula movement. I attended her all day training about the impact of childhood sexual abuse on pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Very insightful and has me thinking about exploring more trainings to ensure all women have services to remove or shift trauma out of the birthing experience. 

And they are up....

Each year BirthMatters does something special in August for breastfeeding awareness....this year we were excited to receive a grant from Select Health of South Carolina.  The two billboards are in Spartanburg and Cherokee County located in our target neighborhoods. The mom (and son) featured in the picture is one of BirthMatters mom. A special thanks to Meagan and Elijah and Select Health!

Back to School Health Fair

Summer Community Events

BirthMatters is represented at several community events over the summer. Here is Amber and Molly sharing information about breastfeeding and recruiting mothers to serve. Amber recruited a mom at this event.  This helps spread the mission of BirthMatters and helps people understand what doulas do.

I have to give a shout out to our lovely ambassadors that volunteer and help us out. Here is Lakesha McCutchen and Debbie Jank. Thanks to everyone. Keep spreading the doula movement in Spartanburg and Cherokee County.

Does the Moon effect birth?

After I read the below link from the Upstate BirthNetwork...I realized that we have some evidence today to speak on this topic...of course I hope everyone noticed the moon last night and will see it tonight...
so BirthMatters had two natural births today...they were within hours of each other and that is not all....we have two mothers admitted for preterm labor...Interesting I will say...
